Ukrainian delegation informs on integrity in sport at the meeting of the Council of Europe Committee

The delegation of Ukraine took part in the 6th meeting of the Council of Europe Committee established in the context of the implementation of the Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions (The Macolin Convention).

In his speech during the meeting, the head of the Ukrainian delegation, State Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Oleksiy Perevezentsev, reported on the losses suffered by the sports sector since the beginning of Russia's full-scale military aggression against Ukraine and thanked his European colleagues for supporting the Ukrainian sports movement.

He called on the delegations participating in the Macolin Convention to extend the regime of non-admission of athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions in any status, including neutral, and expressed his gratitude to his colleagues for supporting this position, which was confirmed by the latest collective statement of 36 sports ministers "On Russia's war against Ukraine and international sport".

Participants of the meeting were informed about the activities of the Interagency Working Group "National Platform of Sports Integrity", the procedure of analysing alerts of possible manipulation of sports competitions developed by this group, and shared the experience of the National Platform in reviewing such cases.

The Ukrainian side also informed the Council of Europe and other States Parties to the Macolin Convention about the work of the National Platform of Sports Integrity webportal, the launch of the National Platform's survey of athletes on the spread of the phenomenon of manipulating sports competitions. NAtional Platform signed several memorandums on cooperation and information exchange with sport sphere stakeholders and with a number of sports federations.

The Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions (The Macolin Convention) was ratified by Ukraine on 16 November 2016 (Law of Ukraine ‘On Ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on the Manipulation of Sports Competitions’).

In order to implement the Macolin Convention, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine created a webportal of the National Platform of Sports Integrity, which allows representatives of the sports community and other citizens to report violations related to sports competitions.
