National Platform held a workshop for National judo team on integrity in sport

On 17 April, an educational seminar was held for members and coaches of the Ukrainian national judo team, initiated by the National Platform of Sports Integrity. The main goal of the meeting was to provide athletes with knowledge on how to resist manipulation in sports and explain why integrity is the foundation of a successful career.

In particular, the representatives of the National Platform discussed the main areas of work of the National Platform and challenges that athletes face today both in Ukraine and abroad. Judo athletes were provided with examples from other sports, including examples of international investigations, to better understand manipulation in sports.

At the same time, more practical things were discussed with the athletes, such as ways to recognise manipulation in sports, what to do if an athlete is under pressure, and why silence about a match-fixing can lead to punishment.

The main message of the event is to create a systematic work on strengthening sports ethics in Ukraine step by step. In many leading countries, anti-corruption education has long been the norm for athletes, especially in such popular Olympic sport as judo. It is worth remembering that awareness-raising is the first defence against risks that can destroy both a sports career and an athlete's reputation.
