National curling team took part in an educational event on integrity in sports
On March 4, the National Platform of Sports Integrity held an online educational event for members of the national curling team to raise awareness of issues related to the manipulation of sports competitions.
Oleksii Perevezentsev, President of the Ukrainian Curling Federation, First Vice President of the NOC of Ukraine, Deputy Head of the Interagency Working Group "National Platform of Sports Integrity", welcomed the participants and emphasized that along with the popularization of sports betting, threats to sports integrity are also growing.
He also cited facts about the global statistics of alerts about possible manipulation of sports competitions received and the results of high-profile international and national investigations into cases of manipulation in sports, including curling.
Nataliia Radchuk, Secretary of the IWG “National Platform of Sports Integrity”, spoke about the structure and activities of the National Platform. She presented the regulatory framework of the IWG, tools, approaches and results of the National Platform. Special attention was paid to the importance of holding joint events with sports federations to raise awareness of issues related to the manipulation of sports competitions.
Sviatoslav Syrota, a member of the National Platform and representative of the NGO "Play Fair", told the athletes how to recognize manipulation in sports and paid special attention to tips and practical advice for athletes on how to avoid falling into the trap of manipulators of sports competitions.
