Boxers of the national team took part in an educational event on integrity in sport

On 3 April, as part of the initiative of the National Platform of Sports Integrity, an educational seminar was held for boxers and the coaching staff of the National Team of Ukraine. Such events are part of the national strategy to combat the manipulation in sport, which is being actively implemented by many sports federations in Ukraine.

Denys Polubinsky, representative of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine and member of the National Platform of Sports Integrity, stressed that manipulation of sports competitions is one of the most serious threats to modern sport, and the international community is making significant efforts to counter this phenomenon. Many countries around the world have strict policies on match-fixing, as well as developed mechanisms for detecting and preventing such violations.
In particular, athletes were introduced to the provisions of the Code of Ethics of the World Boxing, which aims to maintain the integrity of boxing by preventing, detecting and enforcing rules against the manipulation of boxing competitions and related illegal sports betting activities.

Svyatoslav Syrota, a member of the National Platform of Sports Integrity and representative of the NGO Play Fair, spoke in more detail about the specific risks that athletes may face. He drew the athletes' attention to the fact that manipulation in sports means broken careers, lost credibility and undermined trust in the whole sport, and that young athletes, out of ignorance or pressure from their environment, become part of match-fixing schemes.
During the event, boxers had the opportunity to learn about global examples of combating manipulation in sport. The event once again proved that only together the global and national sports movement can create conditions for fair competition in sports.
